Publication Ethics

The Journal of Research, Evaluation, and Assessment in Education (J-REAd) is committed to upholding scholarly integrity throughout the entire publication process. J-REAd's publication ethics policy refers to the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and applies to authors, editors, peer reviewers, and the publisher.

Duties and Responsibilities of Editors

-       Responsible for deciding which manuscripts are suitable for publication based on scientific validity, relevance to the journal's focus and scope, and peer review results, without being influenced by the author's race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, citizenship, or political/institutional affiliation.

-       Maintain the confidentiality of manuscripts under review and not disclose manuscript information to any party other than the author, peer reviewers, and relevant journal management.

-       Follow up on allegations of publication ethics violations (including plagiarism, data manipulation, and duplicate publication) fairly and based on evidence.

-       Ensure the review process is fair, objective, and conducted in a timely manner.

Duties and Responsibilities of Peer Reviewers

-       Assist editors in making editorial decisions through objective and constructive scientific evaluation.

-       Maintain the confidentiality of the manuscript under review and not use information from it for personal advantage.

-       Promptly inform the editor of any potential conflict of interest with the author or the content of the manuscript.

-       Provide clear comments and feedback supported by scientific reasoning, without personal criticism.

Duties and Responsibilities of Authors

-       Ensure that the submitted manuscript is an original work, has not been previously published, and is free from plagiarism.

-       Present research data and results honestly and accurately, without manipulation, fabrication, or falsification of data.

-       Properly cite all references in accordance with accepted scholarly citation standards.

-       Ensure that all listed authors have made a significant contribution to the research, and that no individuals who did not contribute are listed (ghost/guest authorship).

-       Disclose sources of research funding (if any) and any potential conflicts of interest.

-       Not submit the same manuscript simultaneously to more than one journal (duplicate/simultaneous submission).

Handling Alleged Violations of Publication Ethics

J-REAd uses similarity-check software to detect potential plagiarism in every incoming manuscript. If an alleged violation of publication ethics is found—whether plagiarism, data fabrication/falsification, duplicate publication, or illegitimate authorship—the J-REAd editorial team will follow up in accordance with COPE-recommended procedures, which may include requesting clarification from the author, rejecting the manuscript, or retracting a published article if the violation is confirmed after publication.
